Dear GCI Community,
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. David P. Janes as Executive Director and hope you will join us in welcoming him to our GCI Team!
David joins GCI with more than 25 years of experience in international education, U.S.-Japan relations, and philanthropy at major universities and international non-profits. He is a highly respected strategic leader and has spearheaded first-of-their kind initiatives that have served as catalysts for improving educational opportunities and fostering a greater understanding of cultures. David’s deepest passions are for leading and supporting transformational education programs for young people that help build community and lead to positive change for the future. David is excited to partner with President and Founder Ms. Yumi Kuwana, the GCI Board of Directors, GCI Staff, and the entire GCI community to deepen GCI’s impact. In addition, David is eager to assist GCI in building a new Global Scholarship Fund to enable students to join GCI’s program regardless of financial circumstances.
We are absolutely thrilled and honored to have David, such a seasoned and high caliber ethical leader, join GCI as he is a global citizen himself and espouses and breathes the work we do on a daily basis. He has been engaged with GCI as a valuable mentor to our Fellows for several years. With David’s leadership, we look forward to taking the organization to the next level and amplifying our impact around the globe at this critical and challenging time.
David will begin on October 5, 2022 and be based at GCI’s office in Connecticut. He joins GCI from the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) where he served as Chief Advancement Officer, and as the President and CEO of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Foundation (OIST Foundation). In this capacity David led a major effort to support educational ties between the University and schools in Okinawa and developed dialogues around education in Hawai‘i and Okinawa.
We are incredibly excited to see what is next for GCI with David taking on this pivotal role and know that you will continue to support the entire team as we strive to empower the next generation together. Please join us in welcoming David!
