Applications for the GCI Fellowship 2018 open November 1.

Before you begin your application, please review the following sections below: Eligibility, Tuition, Financial Aid, Application Checklist and Admissions Timeline.

Please note that all communication throughout the admissions process will take place via email.

Apply Nominate

1. Age: 16-18

You must be between 16 and 18 years old at the Summit to apply. The Summit takes place from Friday, July 27 through Saturday, August 4, 2018.

2. English Proficiency

If English is not your native language or your school’s primary language of instruction, you must take the TOEFL examination and submit your scores as part of the application. For more information on the TOEFL requirement, please read “TOEFL Scores” below under “Application Checklist.”

3. Availability

You must be able to attend the program in its entirety, arriving Friday, July 27 and departing Saturday, August 4, 2018.

Tuition: $5,700

Tuition includes room, board, academic materials and activity fees.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available on an as-needed and limited basis. We encourage you to apply for financial aid if you require assistance in meeting the cost of attendance.

1. Online Application Forms

The application forms will ask for your personal details, contact information, cultural background, parent(s)/guardian(s) information as well as academics and extracurricular activities.

2. Application Fee

The application fee is $30 and non-refundable. If you are applying for financial aid, you may waive this fee.

3. Passport Photo

You are required to submit a high-resolution passport-style headshot in which your face, head, and shoulders are completely visible.

4. Original School Transcripts

You must upload an original copy of your official transcripts from the current and past year. For example, if you are on 10th grade, please submit your 9th and 10th grade official transcripts. Submitting altered or misrepresenting transcripts will not be tolerated and will immediately disqualify your application. There are no requirements for scores or GPAs. Please be sure to request your transcript from your school(s) as early as possible!

5. Two Letters of Recommendation

You must enter the contact information for two recommenders: the first must be a schoolteacher and the second may be a schoolteacher, supervisor, coach, or employer. Recommenders will receive an email with instructions on when and how to submit their letters. You will not be able to submit your application until both letters have been received. Please contact your recommenders as early as possible to allow sufficient time to meet the application deadline.

6. Multimedia Presentation

You must create a 1 to 2-minute video, slideshow, PowerPoint, or other multimedia presentation in digital format that expands on who you are and why you would make a strong addition to the program.

7. Essays

You are required to answer five (5) essay questions on five different topics: purpose, values, leadership, engagement, and insight. Your answers will help provide the Admissions Committee with a more holistic view of who you are and why you would make a strong addition to the program.

8. TOEFL Scores

If English is not your native language or your school’s primary language of instruction, you must take the TOEFL examination and submit your scores with your application. You may register for the TOEFL online, and take it either online or in-person. You may find more information on test dates, registration, and preparation information online on the TOEFL website. The TOEFL requires adequate preparation and your scores will take time to arrive, so please be sure to schedule your TOEFL test as soon as possible!

9. Financial Aid Supporting Documents

If you require financial aid, you must complete the financial aid portion of the online application and upload the most recent income verification documents available for your household.

Candidate Selection

The Admissions Committee will only review candidates who have submitted all required materials on time and have fully paid or waived the application fee.

APRIL 3, 2018

Acceptance Notices

All applicants will receive a notification letter via email regarding the status of acceptance, including waitlist and deferral notices. The acceptance notice will include details of financial aid status, if applicable.

APRIL 3 - APRIL 30, 2018

Enrollment and Payment

Accepted applicants must pay the program’s full tuition and complete all Mandatory Forms A by April 30, 2018 in order to officially enroll in the program. Applicants who fail to enroll by the deadline will forfeit their place in the program. Applicants on the waitlist will be notified as soon as a place becomes available.

MAY 1 - JUNE 1, 2018

Pre-Summit Requirements

Enrolled applicants will be notified of their enrollment as Fellows and next steps. Fellows must submit all Mandatory Forms B by June 1, 2018 in order to receive access to the program’s online educational and social platform.

Global Citizens Youth Summit

The Summit is only the beginning of each Fellow's journey with GCI.

Implement Glocal Service Projects (GSPs)

Fellows devise GSPs during the Summit and continue to develop them in collaboration with their mentors during the following nine months, from August to April. Through GCI EdGE, our online platform to facilitate global collaboration, Fellows may also seek guidance from faculty and thought leaders, and share their ideas on their GSPs with their peers and the world.

Lifelong Engagement and Community

Once Fellowss begin to implement their GSPs, they become Ambassadors and lifelong members of GCI’s ecosystem of global citizens and leaders. Ambassadors, mentors, faculty, and the GCI community remain in touch in person and online. Through GCI EdGE, they communicate and collaborate together on GSPs as well as other endeavors focused on transforming the world for the better. Ambassadors are also connected to opportunities for seed funding, internships and worthwhile educational programs.
