Glocal Service Projects

GSPs are projects that address a global issue at the local level. Fellows devise their project ideas during the Summit, and continue to develop them in collaboration with their mentors during the following nine months.

Tomás is connecting Brazilian youth through the power of music.

Location: Brazil

Tomás founded Musically United Students and Teachers (MUST), an organization that is uniting youth in Rio de Janeiro through music, in the face of the dangerous realities many of them face every day. MUST is an assembly of passionate students who understand the importance of living to serve others. As a group, they provide those with limited opportunities a chance to learn how to play a musical instrument and host a concert together, with a higher goal to foster mutual understanding and friendship. MUST aspires to inspire and enhance quality of life for youth through the sound of music.

Krissy is providing solar power to superheroes in Massachusetts.

Location: United States

Krissy founded “Solar for Our Superheroes” to provide solar power to local veterans, teachers, firefighters, and police officers in her community in Massachusetts. Her goal is to “give back to people who have given so much to their communities by lowering their utility bill, and to also promote renewable energy in their neighborhoods.” Solar for Our Superheroes is currently working on its pilot project for Tom Rice, a lieutenant at the Marblehead fire station. The organization recently won the Impact Competition hosted by iCivics, the non-profit founded by Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and dedicated to reinvigorating civic learning through interactive and engaging learning resources.

Takunda is empowering South African youth as entrepreneurs.

Location: South Africa

Takunda founded the Circle of Influence Project Society (CIPS) to mobilize high school students to explore their own interests, understand the communities they operate in and run small-scale projects they would innovatively create. CIPS believes that when young people step outside of their comfort zone and deepen their understanding of the communities they live in, they will then have the confidence and knowledge to address societal problems and build a more peaceful and prosperous Africa. Takunda launched CIPS in Johannesburg, South Africa and aims to work in all 15 countries in Southern Africa.
